THE DESIGN PLAN

Soho House is already a name that’s synonymous with premium, exclusive spaces dedicated to a creative and successful membership looking to unwind with a likeminded group of urbanites. Soho Works is a more recent offshoot in the Soho House brand, combining its signature style and professional community in a spacy designed for coworking and collaboration.

For the fourth Soho Works location in Los Angeles – Soho Works 9000 Sunset – RFP joined the Soho Design team to create and construct multiple styles of tables: boardroom, breakout, dining and side. With RFP’s promise of innovation and reliability, these solutions earned RFP subsequent engagements with all existing Soho Works locations (now standing at 10, from Hong Kong to NYC to London) – correcting where other design firms had previously disappointed.

SCOPE OF WORK

RFP was responsible for designing and fabricating multiple styles of tables for Soho Works 9000 Sunset, including:

  • Tables intended for boardroom meetings, dining, podcasting, solo work or small group breakouts
  • Functional and stylish side tables for varied use
  • Complex combinations of materials including stone, metal and speciality woods with a mixture of finishes
  • Completion within time and budget

PROCESS

RFP worked closely with the Soho Design department to establish cohesion with existing properties while achieving aesthetic and functional excellence, including:

  • Several factory tours to learn the details of material properties and furniture design features and process
  • Location visits to assess existing designs (to discuss what worked, and, more importantly, what didn’t)
  • Multiple mock-ups of sample units for each table design for Soho House approval
  • Establishing and formalizing quality standard as well as efficient shipping procedure for following Soho Works locations

RESULT

  • Collaborative, mutually beneficial client relationship
  • Key functional pieces that elevate existing Soho House brand standards for aesthetics and design, now used across locations
  • Successful surfaces to facilitate coworking between members while achieving a desired spatial look
