THE DESIGN PLAN

Some brands are so iconic, you don’t need a logo or a phrase to notice them – sometimes all it takes is a shade. Christian Louboutin is one of those brands, known for the signature red sole of its luxury footwear. Christian Louboutin started his high-end shoe empire in 1991 with his first boutique in Paris and helped revive the stiletto as a fashion staple of the era. Today, there are Louboutin stores in 29 countries around the world and a list of celebrity fans.

When it came to the Louboutin presence within Holt Renfrew (another iconic name in high-end fashion) in Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, RFP partnered with the internal Christian Louboutin design and brand team to act as an international translator of style, look, and functionality in key pieces of the retail space.

SCOPE OF WORK

RFP was responsible for working with Christian Louboutin’s headquarters in France to complete the following:

  • Designing, manufacturing, and installing all upholstered displays for Louboutin product as well as seating, including ottomans and benches (focal points of store layout, in signature CL red)
  • Incorporation of specialized accent materials into furniture designs, including wood, metal, rope, and lighting
  • Final installation on budget and on deadline

PROCESS

RFP worked closely with the in-house Louboutin team to meet high expectations, including:

  • Initial briefings with Christian Louboutin to confirm design details, specs, materials and construction timeline
  • Communicating closely with design team to ensure brand cohesion across locations
  • Multiple shipments of samples and prototypes to Paris for approval and review
  • Liaising with Toronto construction teams and other vendors on final installation
  • Open availability across time zones to meet client needs

RESULT

  • Upholstered displays for high-end Christian Louboutin products
  • Upholstered seating areas to meet high expectations in both design and function
  • Excellent working relationship between intercontinental teams
  • A finished product that meets luxury brand standards
