Where Design Meets Tranquility in Contemporary Japanese Dining
Minami Toronto, a flagship project from the esteemed Aburi Restaurants Canada, brought together thoughtful interior design and elevated culinary experience. RFP Design Group was engaged to fabricate and install a full suite of custom furniture and millwork that would complement the sleek, modern atmosphere while withstanding the rigors of a bustling hospitality setting.

Design & Execution

Sculpted Banquettes for Serene Comfort

Custom Corner & Linear Banquette Seating

  • Upholstered in Mont Blanc Winter Pine fabric with refined piping and seamless stitch work.
  • Frames constructed with L-bracketed hardwood and a spring-and-webbed foundation for enduring support.
  • Carefully contoured corners with mitred integration ensured architectural harmony and ergonomic comfort.

Elevated Bar & Dining Stools

Hand-Finished in Walnut with Luxurious Detailing

  • Solid walnut frames, finished to match Aburi’s design palette.
  • Down-like Dacron seat fill for long-form comfort without compromising on posture or visual elegance.
  • Upholstered in fabric that perfectly complements the surrounding palette, secured with hidden hardware for clean lines.

Architectural Millwork Precision

Custom-Crafted Walnut Features Throughout the Space

  • Flat-cut walnut sealed with custom lacquer to ensure longevity and a warm, rich tone.
  • CNC-cut forms tailored to site measurements for seamless fitment.
  • Hardware concealed for a minimal, floating appearance across all furniture and wall-adjacent elements.

Challenges & Solutions

Executing Clean Upholstery on Curved Forms

Challenge: Delivering consistent finish and tight fit on complex curved seating.
Solution: Leveraged flexply substrates and layered foam application to maintain clean lines while enhancing comfort.

Perfecting Mitred Corner Integration

Challenge: Avoiding visual breaks and fabric mismatches at banquette junctions.
Solution: Built corner units as seamless, one-piece wraps, pre-aligned and dry-fit off-site to ensure precision.

COVID-19 Logistics & Installation

Challenge: Navigating strict safety protocols during on-site delivery and install.
Solution: Staggered trades, pre-scheduled deliveries, and minimized site interaction allowed us to maintain safety without compromising timelines.

Final Outcome

The Minami Toronto custom millwork and furniture project exemplifies RFP Design Group’s core philosophy—craft with purpose. Every stitch, edge, and finish was developed to reflect the elegance of Japanese culture and the operational needs of high-end dining. The final result is a tranquil, beautifully integrated space where craftsmanship meets culinary artistry.
